Lantern
Privacy
This policy covers the Lantern app (called Lantern on iPhone and iPad and Lantern Calendar on the Mac) and the Lantern pages of this website, lanternlabsllc.com/lantern. Both are made by Lantern Labs LLC (“we”).
What the app stores
What you put into Lantern: your tasks, events, habits, goals, milestones and journal notes, what you've ticked off, any numbers you log (such as words written or miles run), and your settings, such as when nudges arrive and how long a focus lasts.
Where it's kept
- On your device, so the app works without a connection.
- In your own iCloud, so your iPhone, iPad and Mac stay in step. It's stored in your Apple account, under Apple's iCloud terms. We have no access to it.
- If iCloud is off, your calendar stays on that device.
Lantern has no server and no account. There's nothing to sign in to.
What the app collects
Nothing. The app doesn't send your calendar, or anything about how you use it, to us or to anyone else.
- No analytics, and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No ads.
- No third-party code or services inside the app.
If you've chosen in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports. That's Apple's setting, not ours, and you can turn it off there at any time.
The camera and your photos
When you scan a written list or a notebook page, the app reads the text on your device, using Apple's built-in text recognition. The photo isn't saved or uploaded. Only the lines you choose to add become part of your calendar. Choosing a photo from your library works the same way, and the app only sees the photo you pick.
Notifications, widgets and the Lock Screen
Nudges and the focus timer's alert are scheduled on your device. They don't come from a server. Widgets and the Live Activity show a small summary of your day that the app keeps on the device, so that they can display it.
The feedback form
The feedback form on our support page is the one place where we receive something from you, and only when you press Send. It collects:
- What you type: whether it's an idea or a bug, a one-line summary and the details.
- Your email address, only if you give it, so we can reply.
- The app version, device and system version (for example “Lantern 1.0 · iPhone · iOS 27.1”), only if the link you followed from the app filled them in. The form shows them to you before you send, and you can leave them out.
Submissions are stored in Notion, a third-party service we use to read them (Notion Labs, Inc., under its own privacy policy). The form passes through our website's host, Vercel, on the way.
We use what you send only to read it and reply to you. We never sell it, and we don't share it with anyone else. To have a submission deleted, write to support@lanternlabsllc.com and we'll delete it.
This website
lanternlabsllc.com is a plain static site. It has no analytics, no ads, no tracking scripts, and it sets no cookies of its own.
- It's hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, handles the requests your browser makes (including your IP address and browser type) to deliver the pages and keep the site secure.
- Its fonts (Inter and JetBrains Mono) are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address and browser in doing so, under Google's privacy policy.
Deleting your data
When you delete something in Lantern, it moves to a deleted folder inside your calendar so that Undo can bring it back. To remove everything, delete the app, and delete Lantern's data from iCloud in your device's settings, under iCloud storage.
To have feedback you've sent us deleted, email support@lanternlabsllc.com.
Children
Lantern is a general-audience planner. Because the app collects nothing, it collects nothing from children either.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If the app ever starts collecting anything, the change will be stated plainly here and in the App Store listing first.
